Body Spirit by Beverly Voss

I want my spirit
to be in gentleness
that says to body:
There, there!
It's quite all right.
It's quite all right.
I want my body
to sigh the world's
deepest sigh and
hear those words
(those ancient words):
All is well and all is well
and all manner of things
shall be well.
I want spirit to burrow
into marrow and blood.
To flow on red rivers
that course through
liver and spleen.
I want body to hear
spirit's hum as
she rides the waves
that breath and lungs create.
I want body and spirit
to move as one.
For spirit to shiver
when hand up-scoops
winter snow.
For body to shake
when spirit laughs.
For spirit to rest
when body says Done!
For them to weave/flow/
sing/sleep/weep/
stomp/laugh and cavort.
To tell tales and small truths.
To find the mulberry tree
To climb.
The poem to dance.
The song to chant.
The lips to kiss.
The fire to light.
